How to locate a switched-off phone: tips that really save the day

On Android, the method is just as easy. Open a browser and type “Find My Google Device” . Sign in with the Gmail account associated with the lost phone. In a few seconds, the map will center on its last known location.

If the battery was empty at the time of disappearance, recent Android devices use a Bluetooth mutual aid network — similar to Apple’s — to update your mobile’s location using nearby Android phones.

Another little-known tip: open Google Maps on your computer, go to “Your trips” and select today’s date. You can then retrace your movements and pinpoint exactly where your phone stopped transmitting. Very useful after a long day!

Do you have a Samsung? Go to SmartThings Find , sign in with your Samsung account, and let the brand’s device network do the work for you.
